Mentoring on 3.26.18

Students were working on a poetry project on the computer during this class. They had to put the definitions of different types on poems, a made-up example of their own, a famous example, and a picture. Most of the students were rather confused because the teacher had just vaguely written the instructions on the board. One student really struggled working on projects on the computer and really enjoyed doing things by hand and drawing his own illustrations. When he asked the teacher if he could do the project on paper, she quickly turned the idea down. The student was so discouraged the rest of the class that he didn't even get past the first slide of the project. We as teachers need to be open to multiple types of methods when it comes to projects and in class assignments. Students should feel accepted when working on things in their comfort zone so they feel more likely to succeed.
