3rd Time mentoring at classic city HS:

Experience: The time I spent in class today was very similar to the first time, there was not much teaching on my part. The class started out very empty but after a few minutes a few student walked in late. Once all the students that were coming were there, we had a total of 6 students. One of the female students from the first week hasn't come back since, which is worrisome. Although I wasn't able to teach any students, I was still learning by watching the teacher. She is very entertaining and tries very hard to pick content that her students will enjoy and be able to engage in. In class today, she was teaching about an African Myth about how the Sahara desert was formed. The students loved it and were asking questions and were very proud of the work they produced based off this myth. This class taught me that if you connect with your students and learn about their interests, you can find class content that will peak their interest and motivate the students to work harder.

Goals for next class: I hope in the upcoming weeks the teacher will assign me a student to work with or give me information to teach so I can help her with the weight and difficulty of the class. I love watching the teacher help her students, but it makes me want to help out even more.
